Destination of the study visit: the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków, the Animation Studio, the Institute of Intermedia.

The Animation Studio is a major laboratory of the Intermedia Institute and as such it may be chosen as a diploma specialization together with diploma thesis supervision. Presentations and lectures refer to issues of broadly defined art of animation. The classes are mostly focused on the presentations of chosen examples of various animation techniques – from classical to those digitally supported. The main theme of the classes deals also with the creation of controlled movement, fundamental rights of kinetics and stop-motion animation (afterimage, tween, closed cycle). Lectures are supplemented by presentations of Polish and world achievements in animation which perfectly illustrate and complete the selected issues discussed during the classes.

The course focuses on workshops and team work in order to equip students with relevant knowledge, teach them how to use the required software, as well as create and properly configure specialist work stations at a level that allows students to conduct further work on their own. Along with the workshops, there are lectures and individual consultations in which we had an opportunity to participate.

The participation in classes proved to be most interesting and useful, especially: learning about the stages of animated movie production, analysing individual workshop techniques, discussing the measures applied and the content layer. Prior to the implementation of the curriculum, students were required to present their proposals in the form of conceptual sketches together with an oral description of the issues and assumptions of the work. Both technical and content progress of the work was discussed in detail in the form of individual corrections.

Another task that covers and sums up our internship was the production of an animated music video. The work included the animation of graphic backgrounds illustrating and complementing selected musical pieces based on the knowledge and skills acquired during the course.
